| RFID…What’s all the buzz? |
It seems almost every time you open up an industrial magazine there's a feature story about RFID tags and labels. Even the Wall Street Journal ran a story about RFID devices. While these tiny circuits are causing a big stir, some of the problems facing tag and label manufacturers is causing a big stir too.
One of the problems in RFID tag and label manufacturing that can really cause a problem is static charge buildup. Industrial environments are no place for an unprotected circuit! While there are different types of RFID devices, and some are more robust than others, there have been many documented instances where RFID devices (tags) have been damaged by static electricity. An electrostatic discharge can damage an electronic circuit in an instant, causing you production problems, and worse, unhappy customers when they find out that the tags aren't working.
